Best of times, Worst of Times

Modi hai toh mumkin hai!! The crowds chanted in a crescendo.

The green shoots withered away and the economy refused to go on a growth path.

Instead of demographic dividend all the nation could see was democratic deficiency.

The youth with untapped potential became delivery guys in the cities. Some others started making pakoras and chai. An occupation, whose virtue was extolled nonetheless by PM. Only a few handful of elites became successful start-ups and went on to become unicorn.

In the rural areas much touted MUDRA program became a flop show. Non-performing assets of banks increased many folds. To rescue them government floated the idea of bad bank. Nothing but a loot of tax payers money in broad day light.

Navratnas among the public sector came under the auctioneers’ hammer. It will all be sold to the highest bidder. LIC would also be exploited to insure government’s policy failure and provide a life line to itself.

Justice Ramanna was tightening up his shoe laces. He was brazing to pick up the SC from down in the dumps where it was left behind by his predecessors. Of late SC was seen to be standing up to the bully at the centre. Still, cases like CAA, and Art 370 abrogation would be the real agnipariksha! In this RamRajya would SC dare to cross the Lakshman Rekha? Bharat Mata who like Sita would she be rescued, this time from Ram himself?

The government has become a specialist event manager and not one of regular governance. He had some months ago wiped his crocodile tears. With the capturing of Afghanistan by Taliban, the border situation has become one of gravity. We have now the best of neighbours in Taliban, Pakistan, China and Bangladesh, Nepal and Srilanka sitting on the fence. Chanakya tantra is no mantra on the diplomatic front.

In the Indian theatre of politics puppetry is the new art form on display. Chief ministers are being replaced like puppets on a string orchestrated by the wily twins. ‘Wetoo’ echoed the grand old party. The shows are for a limited time. For the public it is back to daily woes.
